Adventure racing is sweeping the nation at a phenomenal rate. Racers must overcome a continually expanding list of challenges on race-day. This innovative approach to competitive racing has caused the sport's popularity to grow by leaps and bounds each year.  Adventure Racing is one of the few sports where just completing a race is often considered a victory. Unlike other ultra-endurance sports, Adventure Racing is a team event which emphasizes teamwork rather than individual achievement.

Adventure Racing draws athletes who began as cyclists, runners and water sport enthusiasts just to mention a few. Adventure Races are completed by teams of 2-5 people, with some events now offering solo categories. Races require team members to navigate the racecourse using map and compass while utilizing the required discipline for different segments of the race.  Disciplines vary from race to race and can include shredding through tight single track on a mountain bike or orienteering and hiking through a dense forest. Adventure racers may find themselves ripping down rapids in a canoe and then rappelling off a 100 foot rock face. The races can last a few hours or several days of non stop racing and can cover 10 - 300 miles or more!

American Adventure Sports is paving the way for the future of our sport! Hats off to Doug Crytzer:
